Pemaquid Point Lighthouse will soon gain some additional global fame, thanks to Cable TV’s Travel Channel. Producer and Host Brian Knappenberger visited Lighthouse Park for several hours on Tuesday, June 17, to videotape a two and a half minute segment that will initially appear on the channel’s website.
According to Knappenberger, the website will soon feature a map of the world. A visitor to the website will be able to click anywhere on the map, and a video will play about that region. “When people click on this part of Maine, they’ll see this video, and learn about the lighthouse, its history and this beautiful coast.” He added that these segments will also appear on the Travel Channel sometime in the future.
The crew toured the park for two hours, videotaping the grounds and the exhibits at the Fishermen’s Museum. They also climbed the tower for the panoramic view of the sea and off-shore islands, partly hidden in fog. Bristol Parks staffer Kevin Mullin was on hand to offer historical background. “I just enjoy passing on to others the historical knowledge that has been passed to me over the years. I like the idea that more people will get to know about this unique historical place.” Mullin will likely appear on camera, but he rates his chances at Hollywood fame and fortune as “zero to none.”
Knappenberger was scheduled to visit Monhegan on the next leg of his coastal Maine tour.
