The Pemaquid River is a birder's delight. And the best way to experience it is by kayak or canoe. As you make your way north, towards Pemaquid Pond, you'll weave through marsh grass and pass under Spruce trees and shady Maples. If you're quiet, patient and lucky, you could get a glimpse of a Great Blue Heron browsing for breakfast in the shallows. Or maybe watch a Bald Eagle soar through the treetops.

The Pemaquid Watershed Association (PWA) is the steward for much of the river area. In fact, you'll pass a number of bird houses implanted in the marshy areas to create bird habitat.

Bring your own canoe or kayak, or rent one next door. In 2007, we installed a new 20-foot dock, so you can hop aboard your boat without getting your feet wet. Don't forget the sunscreen and a camera. And leave the power boat at home.
